S/4461 Antique Treen 18th Century Scottish Fruitwood Quaich or Dipper Cup

An extremely rare initialled and signed fruitwood quaich or dipper cup, having a single curved lug exquisitely carved with a Scottish thistle. The body is carved with an intricate basket weave design, and is signed on the rim, William Jinglis, and initialled W.J. on a panel on the body opposite the lug handle. It is raised on a shallow foot and the underside is carved with an intricate segmented and geometric design. The whole has a good medium colour and patination.
