S/4514 Antique Treen Early 19th Century Birch Mortar Grater

An early 19th century three piece birch mortar grater of traditional form, having a pestle with a mushroom handle, that has a perforated metal grinding plate with the middle section having a similar interior plate. The base is secured by a protruding lug and is hollowed out to receive the ground substance, often used by tobacconists for producing snuff. The whole has a good medium colour and patination.
