S/4527 Antique Treen 19th Century Laburnum Wood Signet

A small laburnum wood signet for wafers or wax seals, having an intricate turned handle above a brass stamp in the traditional manner with a cross hatched end. Wafers were small discs of flour, mixed with gum or gelatine, which when moistened were used cold for sealing letters, attaching papers or receiving the impression of a seal. The whole has a good colour and patination.
