S/4536 Antique Treen 19th Century Mahogany and Walnut Two Tier Reel Stand
An exceptional quality well turned mahogany and walnut two tier reel stand, having a top with a pin cushion (replaced) that is above a revolving platform with eight spindles for cotton reels. The dish shaped base has six spindles for cotton reels and four different sized thimble holders, and is raised on three turned feet. It is interesting to note that the central column has been turned, halved and quartered using both mahogany and walnut sections. We have never come across this before, and it shows that it was made by an extremely skilled cabinet maker/turner. Three spindles have probably been replaced at a later date, and the whole has an excellent rich colour and patination.
