S/4589 Antique Treen 18th Century Dutch Tobacco Jar

A good 18th Century Dutch tobacco jar, having a fitted domed and inlaid mahogany lid that is centered with a raised urn shaped handle. The body, with two wide reeded bands, comprises of alternate vertical staves of ebony, boxwood, and walnut, and all are secured at the top and base by a narrow brass band. The interior has a conforming lead lid to keep the tobacco from drying out. The whole has an excellent colour and patination.
