S/4588 Antique Treen 19th Century Pair of Boxwood Butter Hands

An excellent pair of early 19th century boxwood butter hands, size number 5, also known as butter patters or boards. The pair have spade shaped blades with rounded ends and long handles, each with a hole for hanging on a nail. They have rounded backs, therefore the proportions are unusual, which are much more substantial than usual. The number 5 is stamped on the back of one of the handles. The pair have a lovely colour, as often found with boxwood items, and excellent well used patination.
