S/4593 Antique Treen 19th Century Fruitwood Hound Snuff Shoe

An extremely rare fruitwood snuff shoe, having a fitted lid in the form of a hound peering out from the inside of a Dutch clog. The front of the shoe is deeply carved with running vine leaf decoration on a stippled ground. The carving is of excellent quality, especially the dog's face, with a serine expression. The whole has a good colour and patination.
