S/4611 Antique Treen 17th Century Northern European Birch Lidded Drinking Vessel

A rare and most unusual late 17th century birch lidded drinking vessel, having a ring turned domed fitted circular lid, that has an interesting border of carved zig zag decoration surrounding a small central finial. The tall tapered body, with moulded and incised line decoration, is seated on a reeded domed and rounded foot. It has excellent pole lathe ring turnings to the interior of the lid and base of the foot. This is a most interesting example of an early period treen drinking vessel, and has a lovely colour and patination.
