S/4663 Antique Treen Early 19th Century Welsh Oak Salt Box

A rare example of an early 19th century Welsh oak salt box, having a shaped and arched top with a suspension hole and an inlaid reversed heart that is above a slanting lid with copper staple hinges (replaced). The front is crossbanded in mahogany and centered with an inlaid picture of a circular salt with a central bladed knop on a circular foot. This is a feature we have not come across before. The right rounded ear on the backboard has been replaced. The whole has a pleasing medium colour and retains a patination.
