S/4739 Antique Treen 18th Century Stable Candle Holder

A good 18th century stable candle holder, which were used in stables with the candle contained within a wire cage to stop it toppling over onto the straw causing a fire. The handle also acts as a traveller to raise or lower the candle with a further handle at the top for hanging. This example is well made with a good turned and stepped wooden base with traces of original paintwork and it has an excellent rich colour and patination.
