S/4938 Antique Treen 19th Century Scottish Luggie

A 19th century willow bound Scottish luggie, made with alternate staves of alder and sycamore and bound with willow. The alder was stained dark brown by steeping the wood in a peat bog. The staves are feathered together, producing a perfect and watertight fit. The base is oak with a false bottom containing peas or similar objects, which when shaken makes a rattling sound to gain attention and the handle is an elongated stave. The whole has a pale colour and retains a patination.
