S/4908 Antique Treen Early 18th Century Sycamore Mortar Grater

An excellent early 18th century three section sycamore mortar grater, which is of a bulbous design with a removable fitted mushroom knob handle that has a crude wrap around iron grater to the base. The centre section has a further perforated iron plate and is attached to the base by a protruding lug with two aligning marks to the exterior. The whole is raised with a stepped concave collar on an angled and vertical foot. The slightly concave base has carved capital initials M.E. and has excellent pole lathe turnings, which are also visible in the interior. The whole has an exceptional rich colour and patination.
