S/4932 Antique Treen 17th Century Charles II Elm Base Rush Light

A fine Charles II elm base rush light, having a circular tapered and rounded elm base and a close twistwork hinge riveted support for the candle socket and jaws for the rush. It has an interesting base, which is concave, lathe turned and with a hand chiselled centre. It has a provenance of having a receipt when purchased at the Grosvenor House Antiques Fair, London, on June 20th. 1987, from A. and E. Foster, who were considered important and established dealers in antique treen.
