S/4969 Antique Treen 18th Century Stable Candle Holder
A good mid 18th century stable candle holder, which were used in stables with the candle contained within a wire cage to stop it toppling over onto the straw causing a fire. The handle also acts as a traveller to raise or lower the candle with a further handle at the top for hanging and carrying. It is an excellent example of substantial proportions and has a most pleasing fruitwood turned base with pole lathe turnings on the underside. The whole has a most pleasing colour and good patination.
