S/5138 Antique Treen 18th Century Scandinavian Poplar Wood Mangle Board

A most interesting 18th Century Scandinavian mangle board in poplar wood, having a raised handle, a section inscribed Anno 1786 Den 24 Martius (in the year 1786 of the 24th March). The whole has an excellent honey colour and patination. Having washed the articles, they were wrapped around a long roller, which was run back and forth on a flat surface by the firm downward pressure of a mangle board, held at right angles above the roller.
