S/5265 Antique Treen 19th Century Oak Wall Mounted Salt Box

A good and most attractive 19th century oak salt box, having a raised and domed back panel carved in the Gothic style. The lid, with a brass studded leather hinge, opens to a plain interior with a suspension hole. The base has a fitted oak lined drawer, again carved in the Gothic style, with a small bone knob handle. The whole has an excellent colour and patination.

Salt boxes were very often hung on the sides of Inglenook open down hearth or bar grate fire places, so as to keep the salt dry.
