S/5031 Antique Treen Large British Indian Swat Valley Serving Dish

An exceptional well used shallow serving dish, that has through age shrunk across the grain making it more of an oval form. It has a rounded rim with a plain band and pronounced incised lines. The well worn underside has concentric lines and bands, is unpolished and in original condition. It has historic shrinkage to the interior. The whole has an excellent colour and patination.

The Swat Valley is a natural geographic region surrounding the Swat River and was a major centre for early Buddhism under the ancient Kingdom of Gandhara, which was inherited by Pakistan following India's independence from British rule.
