S/5336 Antique Treen Late 17th Century Lignum Vitae Mortar

A small late 17th century lignum vitae mortar, having two bands of twin incised lines and raised on a shallow rounded foot. It has historic damage on one side, where two knots have become displaced and a circular plug has been inserted. The surface shows pleasing discoloured patination and the interior is worn with years of use.
