S/5367 Antique Treen 19th Century Dated Icelandic Stained Pine Food Box

A lovely stained pine Icelandic food box dated 1866, in which the haymakers carried their breakfast to the meadows. These boxes were of bowl shaped form, with interlocking bands at the top and base, and having a handle to each side, one of which hinges the carved lid with intricate carving and dated 1866. The whole has an excellent mid brown colour and patination. It has minor restoration.
