S/5493 Antique Treen 19th Century Staved Tobacco Jar
A well constructed tobacco jar, having an intricately carved stepped lid of circular form with a carved knob finial. The staved body has vertical sections of alder and sycamore, bound with three bands of willow to the top and base. The partial lined interior has the remains of lead foil to keep the tobacco from drying out. It has contrasting colour tones and retains a patination.
