S/5559 Antique Treen 18th Century Burr Birch Carved Peg Tankard

A Norwegian 18th century burr birch carved peg tankard of traditional form, having a wooden hinged and domed lid, carved with a roundel depicting a crowned lion. The body has a shaped and engraved silver cartouche depicting a coat of arms. The well proportioned handle is extensively carved and the whole, raised on three carved feet, has a good colour, grain and patination.
