S/5558 Antique Treen Late 19th Century Dutch Dated Salt Box

A good example of a wall mounted Dutch salt box of traditional form, having a suspension hole incorporated in a shaped backboard above a wire hinged lid, which the underside is indistinctly inscribed and dated 21st April 1880. The shaped body is of circular form, which is staved with alternate vertical bands of alder and sycamore with reeded decoration. The whole has an excellent colour, grain and patination.
