S/5549 Antique Treen 19th Century Laburnum Go to Bed

A small laburnum go to bed, having a top with a bone inset to receive the match and a well turned body in two sections with a screw thread that reveals a vacant interior for the storage of matches.

These were used in place of candles (which were expensive) and gave you enough light to go to bed. They were also used to melt sealing wax for letters and documents. The Whole has a dark rich colour and patination.
