S/5657 Antique Treen Early 19th Century Welsh Sycamore Chip Carved Knitting Sheath

A delightful small Welsh chip carved sycamore knitting sheath, with a cut out to fit on the cow band. The chip carving is extremely intricate, incorporating various designs, on one side it has carved initials M.C. with further illegible ones on the same area. It has been suggested that it possibly was made for knitting silk items such as gloves. The whole has a medium colour, retaining a patination.
