S/5658 Antique Treen 19th Century Dutch Oak Mangle Board

A solid oak plain Dutch mangle board of rustic form, having a shaped flat handle to one end with a suspension hole. After the articles have been washed, they were wrapped around a long roller, which was run back and forth on a flat surface by the firm downward pressure of a mangle board, held at right angles above the roller to remove the excess water. The whole retains a patination.
