S/5647 Antique Treen Early 18th Century Fruitwood Snuff Pestle and Mortar
A lovely small early 18th century fruitwood snuff pestle and mortar of rounded form and of the Queen Anne Period, having a concave stem and stepped circular foot and retaining its original knob ended pestle. An almost identical example is illustrated on page 115, plate 8/9 in 'Treen for the Table' by Jonathan Levi. It has a most excellent colour and patination, with a historic patinated chip to the top edge.
