S/5690 Antique Treen 19th Century Sail Maker's Boxwood Seam Rubber

A well used boxwood sail maker's seam rubber or liner, having a pale honey colour and natural patination. Seam rubbers were made in various woods and sometimes whale bone or walrus ivory and were used by sailors and sail makers for smoothing the seams in canvas, flattening the double line of waxed stitches into the canvas.
