S/5814 Antique Treen Early 19th Century Scottish Bicker

A Scottish bicker (drinking vessel) of traditional design, bound in willow and having two protruding lug handles. The alternate vertical staves of alder and sycamore are feathered in the usual manner and stained a darker colour by steeping the wood in a peat bog. For a full description see 'Treen for the Table' by Jonathan Levi, page 80, plate 5/2 number 3. The whole has a good colour and retains a patination.
