S/5891 Antique 19th Century Carved Fruitwood Wall Plaque

A beautifully carved early Victorian fruitwood circular wall plaque, carved from the solid with a decorative pierced handle for hanging on the wall. The scene depicts a gentleman in a frock coat sitting in a chair reading from a book, which is on a circular tripod table. Opposite him is his wife sitting on a rocking chair with their two children. The whole is in a room setting with a window and draped curtains in the background. The scene is within a circular delicately carved border with carved initials I.H. and dated 1849. We have never seen or come across a similar item, and therefore it must be considered extremely rare. The whole has an excellent rich honey colour and original patination.
