S/5926 Antique Treen 19th Century Solid Oak Book Box

A finely carved solid oak box in the form of a book, made by carving out the core of a block of oak to leave a thin outer shell, and then fitting a sliding lid. It has extensive decoration and chip carving on all three sides, including the spine. The top has a full sized grooved sliding lid to obtain the contents. It has historic chipping here and there. The whole has a dark rich colour and retains a patination.
