S/5957 Antique Treen 18th Century Walnut Oval Snuff Box Initialled and Dated 1741

A fine mid 18th century walnut snuff box, having a wooden hinged lid. The top section is carved with a cross above initials A.D. and the date of 1741. The lower section has a carved figure of a Scotsman wearing a kilt and holding a staff or shepherd's crook. The sides and base, of well grained walnut, have what appears to be a dark ink stain on the side and base. The whole has a medium colour and retains a pleasing natural patination.
