S/6005 Antique Treen 19th Century Carved Fruitwood Knitting Sheath

An unusual square section fruitwood knitting sheath of small and tapered proportions, having a rounded needle hole above an open window with stationary vertical rods, chip carved on all sides with diamonds, a scrolling vine and zig zag hatched decoration and a cow band opening midway terminating in a pointed end. The whole has an excellent pale colour and patination.
