S/5872 Antique Treen 19th Century Inlaid Mahogany Book Snuff Box

A good example of a snuff box, carved from a solid piece of mahogany, in the form of a book. The inlay on the top, which has a sliding lid, consists of a design with corner fan motifs and a central diamond in boxwood and ebony, which is repeated on the back. The bow fronted spine is divided into three panels with carved zig zag decoration, which is also repeated on the front and back. The whole has a pleasing colour and retains a patination.
